Creating a Story Teller Version of your Children's Book

Finding a way to stand out among the saturated market of children’s books authors can be a challenge. I am a firm believer that the old face to face approach when marketing to children works best. Doing a live reading to children can not only be fun for you as an author, but it is a great way to get exposure. Giving your little fans a personal connection to you and your book is the best way to get them coming back for more.

Many bookstores are under a lot of pressure to compete with online book stores and the growing popularity of electronic books. However there will always be a need for print copies of children’s books. There is just something about sitting down with a kid and reading them their favorite book. Most bookstores love having authors for live readings it not only gets people in their door but it also promotes book sales.

So how do you have a successful book reading? Number one is be yourself, let everyone know who you are as an author and connect with fans on a personal level. Next, you need to find a way to stand out. Props are a great way to add excitement to a children’s book reading. Maybe you have a friend who can dress up as character from the book. Maybe your book is about a certain sport or activity, have you considered bringing some of the items used in your book for the children to see face to face?

At Steuben Press we have helped many of our Children’s book authors create larger than life versions of their book to help with the story telling process. This is a simple prop that will not only be fun for you to have but it makes reading to a group much easier. The illustrations will be large enough for the group to see from a distance and you will be able to engage with everyone at the same time. This is a great add on to a children’s book printing package at Steuben Press. After your books have been printed we can scale your book to the storyteller size that works best for your book. These books are then spiral bound for easy page turning and easy viewing.

In early 2013 I approached Steuben Press on a book project I'd hope to get off the ground. I was referred to them by another business entirely, which I think is a credit to how Steuben Press is seen amongst their competitors. The project was a 120 page, full color art book that came out amazing. They under promised and over delivered a great book which I’m happy to report is already on its third printing. I have and would recommend Steuben Press to my friends and other self-publishers.
